No more paci's!!

Aiden was never a real pacifier lover. He would go in phases where he would need one to fall asleep for naps, but he has never been really, really attatched. This past week he has had a little bit of a cold. You know...cough, runny nose, so he has been pretty congested and hasn't wanted a pacifier at all. My goal has always been to "wheen" him from the binki by 18 months. I didn't want to send him to nursery with a pacifier and have every other child in nursery suck on it! So, I thought to myself...."What a great time to just do away with the pacifier now!" My thought worked like a charm!! I thought that once he was feeling better, that he might want to go back to naps with a paci...but he hasn't missed them!! I boxed up all his paci's and away they went!
Now...my next project may be a little harder. I was hoping to have Aiden soley on a sippy-cup by 12 months. That isn't going as well as I had hoped. When I give him a sippy-cup, he just chews on it instead of suck on it. So, if any one knows any tricks to loosing the bottle, I would love to hear them!

Your story is just the opposite of mine. Brooke was only drinking from a sippy cup by 10 months. However, her binkie is a whole other issue. She loves that thing. I want her off of it before nursery too so I've got a couple more months to go. Wish me luck. :) And good luck to you with the whole sippy cup thing. He'll catch on sooner or later.

Well, I'm glad you had a easy time with the whole binki thing. My kids loved their binki's. Lydia still steals Brody's binki and goes and hides. Brody is going into nursery the week after conference and still has his binki at nap time but I won't let him have it in nursery. But the whole bottle thing both of my kids went off of it just fine. I just stopped giving it to them and they didn't miss it. If he won't suck on a sippy try a juicy box that has a straw. My niece did the same thing and I tried a drink with a straw and she did great. You could also try to take the stopper out of it and then he might figure out that there is good stuff in that cup and not just something fun to chew on. Plus when they go to nursery they have to drink from a cup at treat time so Brody is almost off sippy cups on just on reagular cups now. But I bet Aidan starts using his sippy when that is the only thing he has. He'll drink when he gets thirsy. Good luck. Every kid is different so there is not just one answer. Sorry I probably write too much. Have a good day. Crystal

Good job Melissa on the binki! :) I remember we kept losing Taylor's, and then one night we just decided to let it stay lost and "deal with it"...it worked. :) Did you know they make soft lid sippy cups now? You probably have already tried them, but I loved them for Matthew when he was first starting because they were more like a bottle nipple, and seemed easier for him to figure out. Plus, he also like to chew on them, and if he had it tilted up, when he chewed on it the liquid would come out and it helped him figure it out faster. Cute pictures from you dad's wedding! That is so great!
