Aidens surgery was scheduled for the morning of Friday the 13th! I am not superstitious...but really what a day to have surgery! We left for Salt Lake on thursday afternoon...and thanks to Davids parents, we had a somewhat peaceful drive!! Since we hadn't had time to put a DVD player in our car yet, they offered to let us take theirs...and what a difference!! So...thanks Ty and Sandra!!
My mom and step-dad took us out to dinner for Aidens "last meal" before surgery! I was exptecting I-Hop or Perkins...but Grandpa Doug insisted that Aiden dine in style. We ended up going to The Little America Steakhouse. It was fancy!! Aiden even got to drink out of his own "fancy cup!"
The next morning was surgery day!! We got to the hospital about 9:00 am and got checked in and into fun hospital PJ's!
After a tiny dose of "sleepy juice" and a few blood tests, Aiden was taken to surgery! Surgery lasted about 4 hours. The tumor was actually bigger than we had all thought, so there had to be 2 incisions to get it all. Talk about battle wounds!!
About 1 hour after surgery, we were admitted into the Childrens Surgery unit where we planned to stay for 3 days! But...our little trooper had other plans!! He came out of anestisia very quickly and was very eager to drink! The only thing he had to do before we could go home was to take pain meds orally. After a tiny little lapse in meds, we had a very sad...and sore boy on our hands for a few hours...but that was all the push he needed to take the yucky stuff by mouth!!
This morning he woke up happy and more like himself! The nurses were all amazed at how quickly he turned around!! So after a few wet diapers, they let us bring our boy home!!
Aiden got to ride to the car in a fun little wagon....I think that was definately the high-light of his trip to the hospital!!
We were welcomed home the the best surprise!! My sister-in-law and her kids had snuck over and decorated our house! They also left dinner! It was the best gift ever!! Aiden smiled when he saw the balloons and was so excited to play with them!!
Aiden is doing great!!! He is quickly learing his limits with one sore leg!! He has...in just a few short hours...figured out how to crawl. He kind of moves with his good leg and just drags the other behind!! Talk about persistance!!
Thanks to everyone who called and commented!! We are very greatful to those of you who showed your concern!!
